What is Naturalist intelligence?

The “nature smart” studnets learning involves an experience in the natural world; ability to recognize and categorize plants, animals and other objects in nature. The "nature" studnets have sensitivity to other features of the natural world. So, they learn best through the interactions with the environment including outdoor activities, field trips, and involvement with plants and animals. They see the subtle meanings and patterns in nature and the world around them.

Students with strong naturalist intelligence enjoy, and have success, working with audio and video cameras - record natural world, digital cameras - record natural world, field trips, word processing - journaling, natural information, data organization and calculation (database, spreadsheet) - observations, desktop presentations (Impress) - show tends and changes over time, use microscopes and probes - nature up close.

GIMP is a great image editing program for tasks such as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. Students can produce simple diagrams and with programs like IMP, they can perform tasks such as photo retouching and there are tutorials too. This is an even better tutorial!

Tips for picking software

There is no one best way to find FOSS projects that will best serve your needs. There are several rules of thumb you can use to help you make informed decisions.

    * Do you already have something that will do the job well?

    * Does the program do what you want?

    * Do you care about the ideologies behind free software and open source software?

    * Do you know other people that already use it?

    * Is the current version over a year old?

    * Are there user support mailing lists you can join?
