What is Mathematical intelligence?

Students with strong logical/mathematical intelligence enjoy, and have success, working with organizational tools (databases, calendars), calculation tools (spreadsheets), online calculation tools and utilities, scientific equipment (probes), science and math software, statistics, graphing calculators and software, multimedia authoring - show results, animate, videotape - experiments, demonstrations, data gathering, animation - demonstrate an experiment, desktop presentation (Impress-slide show) - show results, problem solving software, computer-aided design - for problem solving, strategy, logic, and critical thinking software,

Various Math Programs allow students to learn more about the key elements of calculating, programming, learning, documenting or developing. Students can run simple calculator operations to large-scale programming and interactive-document preparation. Below I have listed two math programs freely available.  EigenMath is a free, easy to use, multiplatform computer algebra system by George Weigt, currently available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.  This wiki site provides links to information and downloads.

K3DSurf is a program to visualize and manipulate Mathematical models in three, four, five and six dimensions. currently available for Windows and Linux, K3DSurf supports Parametric equations and Isosurfaces.

Tips for picking software

There is no one best way to find FOSS projects that will best serve your needs. There are several rules of thumb you can use to help you make informed decisions.

    * Do you already have something that will do the job well?

    * Does the program do what you want?

    * Do you care about the ideologies behind free software and open source software?

    * Do you know other people that already use it?

    * Is the current version over a year old?

    * Are there user support mailing lists you can join?
